According to financial industry sources on the 4th, the Financial Services Commission (FSC) will convene the heads of associations representing all financial sectors—including banking, financial investment, insurance, specialized credit finance and savings banks—as well as the CEOs of financial companies affected by security incidents, this afternoon at Government Complex Seoul.
FSC Chairman Lee Eok-won and Financial Supervisory Service Governor Lee Chan-jin will also attend.
The FSC had initially planned for each financial institution to conduct its own inspection during the holiday period ending on the 5th and report the results on the 7th. However, it appears to have moved up the meeting after additional data-leak incidents came to light.
It has been confirmed that personal information involving an estimated 40,000 subscribers was leaked at Shinhan Bank, KB Kookmin Bank, Hana Bank and BNK Busan Bank, as well as Yegaram Savings Bank. At Hyundai Capital Services, some personal information belonging to 146 mortgage-loan agents was leaked.
Authorities reportedly have not ruled out the possibility that additional victims of data leaks caused by hacking attacks may be identified in other financial sectors beyond the cases reported so far.
