[Financial News] Choi Ji-woon, 14, of Daecheonseo Middle School, the future of South Korean sailing, surged to a thrilling gold-medal victory at the 2026 Asian Games with a dramatic comeback.
After completing the 12th race in the boys' dinghy event at the Games' sailing competition on the 3rd at Kaiyo Yacht Harbor in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, Choi Ji-woon recorded 25 net penalty points to finish first and win the gold medal.
It was a truly dramatic comeback victory. Choi Ji-woon was in fourth place overall with only the final two races remaining, leaving his chances of reaching the medal standings uncertain. However, he displayed a fierce late surge and intense focus in the remaining races, overturning the standings at once to claim the comeback title.
Choi Ji-woon's victory gave South Korean sailing its first gold medal in a youth event at the Asian Games in 12 years. The last such win came when Park Seong-bin claimed the under-16 (U-16) Optimist title at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
