At around 5:58 a.m. on the 3rd, a man in his 60s was struck and killed by an electric train on the upbound tracks between Uiwang Station and Sungkyunkwan University Station on Line 1 in Suwon-si, Gyeonggi Province.
As a result of the accident, upbound services were delayed for roughly 2 hours and 40 minutes. A total of 12 regular and electric trains were delayed by about 10 to 30 minutes each. Downbound services in the opposite direction operated normally.
After the accident occurred, Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) deployed an initial response team and managed the scene. About 150 passengers aboard the train involved in the accident were transferred to a subsequent train.
A KORAIL official explained, "We believe the fatal accident occurred after the person entered the tracks without authorization," adding, "We plan to investigate the exact cause of the accident."
