The South Korean national team delegation competing at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games is entering its final medal race in archery, taekwondo, sport climbing and men’s football.
On the 3rd, the recurve archery individual quarterfinals and medal events for men and women will be held at the Multipurpose Plaza of Okazaki Central Park in Aichi Prefecture. Oh Ye-jin of Kwangju Bank will compete for a medal. She has already advanced to the semifinals, improving her chances of winning one.
Additional medals are also expected in taekwondo kyorugi. Kim Yu-jin in the women’s 57kg division and Kang Sang-hyun in the men’s over-80kg division, both representing the Ulsan Metropolitan Sports Council, will compete at Toyohashi Gymnasium in Aichi Prefecture. In particular, Kim Yu-jin, the 2024 Paris Olympic gold medalist, would complete a grand slam spanning the World Championships and Asian Championships if she wins the title at these Games.
At the Nagoya International Exhibition Hall, Seo Chae-hyun, who previously won a bronze medal in the bouldering event at these Games, will compete in lead, her main sport climbing event, and challenge for gold.
South Korea’s national under-23 football team, led by head coach Lee Min-sung, will seek a fourth consecutive title in the final against Japan at 7:30 p.m. today at Toyota Stadium in Aichi Prefecture.
Meanwhile, the South Korean delegation had won 33 gold medals as of the 2nd, making it unlikely that it will achieve its initial target of 40 to 45. This would be its poorest performance in 44 years, since the 1982 New Delhi Games, when it won 28 gold medals.
The Asian Games will conclude with the closing ceremony on the 4th. The next Games, in 2030, will be held in Doha, Qatar.
