【Financial News, Jeju Province—Reporter Jeong Yong-bok】 Jeju Province will enjoy mild weather during the National Foundation Day holiday, with daytime temperatures rising into the mid-20s Celsius. However, rain and strengthening winds are expected on Oct. 5, the final day of the holiday.
According to the Jeju Regional Meteorological Office on Oct. 3, Jeju Province will have occasional cloud cover before becoming cloudy from the afternoon.
The daytime high is expected to reach 24°C in Jeju Province and Seongsan, 25°C in Gosan, and 26°C in Seogwipo. Temperatures will remain at 22°C in Sancheondan, 23°C in Hannam, and 20°C at Seongpanak on Hallasan.
The weather will be mostly cloudy on Oct. 4, but temperatures will rise further. Morning lows are expected to be 19°C in Jeju Province and Gosan, and 20°C in Seogwipo, Seongsan, and the Chujado Islands. Daytime highs will reach 25°C in Jeju Province and Gosan, 24°C in Seongsan, and 27°C in Seogwipo.
Temperatures in the mid-mountain and mountainous areas will be lower than along the coast. Morning temperatures will fall to 17°C in Sancheondan and Hannam and 15°C at Seongpanak. Daytime temperatures will reach 23°C, 24°C, and 21°C, respectively.
Rain and strong winds are expected on Oct. 5 as the weather pattern changes.
The Jeju Regional Meteorological Office forecasts light rain of less than 5 mm in parts of Jeju Province from the early hours through the morning. From the afternoon, the rain will stop and the weather will be intermittently cloudy.
Temperatures will also drop slightly. Morning lows on Oct. 5 are expected to be 18–20°C in coastal areas, while daytime highs will range from 23°C to 26°C. Seongpanak is forecast to fall to 13°C in the morning and 18°C during the day.
Winds and high waves will require more attention than the amount of rain. Strong northwesterly to northerly winds are expected across Jeju Province on Oct. 5, with even stronger winds forecast around Seongsan, Gosan, the Chujado Islands, and the mountainous areas.
Waves will also rise offshore. Wave heights in the waters off Jeju Island will be 0.5–2.5 m on Oct. 3, but are expected to reach up to 3 m on Oct. 5, particularly off western Jeju Province. Waves of up to 3 m are also forecast in the inner offshore waters to the southwest and southeast.
Anyone planning marine tourism, fishing, or coastal activities during the holiday should check wind and wave conditions, especially on Oct. 5.
