[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae said on the 2nd, regarding Kim Yo Jong, director of the General Affairs Department of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), criticizing President Lee Jae Myung's Armed Forces Day address—in which he said he would continue taking measures to reduce inter-Korean military tensions—as "the second act of a self-produced clown show," "Disparaging remarks about our government and president do not help build mutual trust."
A Cheong Wa Dae official said in response to a question about Kim's remarks, "We urge the North Korean side to stop its futile criticism and join our efforts toward peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula."
In addition, the Cheong Wa Dae official stressed, "The government will promptly and thoroughly investigate the landmine explosion incident, transparently determine the truth, and take the necessary measures. At the same time, it is necessary to ease military tensions between the two Koreas and resume dialogue and communication so that such problems do not recur."
Earlier, Kim said, "While those underlings like minnows (the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff (ROK JCS)) are preoccupied with picking needless quarrels with others by announcing investigation results and official statements, the person called the president appeared at what was supposedly a commemorative ceremony and expressed his 'will' to consistently take practical measures to lower military tensions."
She then sarcastically remarked, "It is the climactic scene of a clown show, truly too good to watch alone. It seems the second act of a self-produced clown show has begun."
On September 30, Kim Yo Jong had also denied the ROK JCS's interim investigation finding that an explosion in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) was highly likely to have been caused by a North Korean landmine, calling it "Seoul's self-produced clown show." Two days later, she issued another statement and criticized it using the same expression.
