[Financial News] A 70-something worker was killed after being struck by an excavator bucket that came loose during work at a civil engineering construction site in Hadong-gun, South Gyeongsang Province. Labor authorities have launched an investigation into whether the Serious Accidents Punishment Act was violated.
According to police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor on the 2nd, at around 1:50 p.m. that day, a 71-year-old man identified only as A was struck in the head by an excavator bucket at a civil engineering construction site operated by Daeguk, a specialized rebar and concrete contractor, in Hadong-eup, Hadong-gun, South Gyeongsang Province. A went into cardiac arrest immediately after the accident and was taken to a nearby hospital, but eventually died.
At the time, workers were using an excavator to lift rebar. The bucket mounted on the front of the excavator suddenly became detached during the operation and fell onto A, according to the findings.
Immediately after the accident, the Industrial Accident Prevention Supervision Division and the Serious Accident Investigation Division of the Jinju Branch Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor ordered an immediate halt to all work at the site and began investigating the accident. Police and labor authorities are questioning people involved at the site to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and whether safety rules were followed. They are also conducting an intensive investigation into whether the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act were violated.
