Cyberattacks on the Financial Sector Spread... Yegaram Savings Bank Also Reports Customer Data Leak

Yegaram Savings Bank said on the 2nd that it had confirmed indications that customers' personal information had been leaked following abnormal external access. The leaked information reportedly included names, dates of birth and contact details. The scale was reportedly about 40,000 records.
Yegaram Savings Bank said, "On the 30th of last month, we confirmed indications that an unidentified hacker had accessed a server containing customers' personal information and that personal information had been leaked," adding, "The incident was confirmed to have involved an unidentified hacker accessing a server containing personal information, resulting in the leakage of some information."
Customers of Yegaram Savings Bank can check via the 'Personal Information Leak Lookup' link.
After becoming aware of the leak, Yegaram Savings Bank completed emergency measures, including suspending related services and blocking IP addresses. To prevent further damage, the bank plans to strengthen security monitoring and operate a customer service center to help redress customer losses.
Yegaram Savings Bank has reported the matter to the financial authorities and the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC).
Meanwhile, security concerns are growing as external hacking incidents involving personal information leaks occur across the banking sector. Shinhan Bank suffered an incident the previous day in which the personal information of approximately 25,000 customers was leaked. The leaked information included customer names, phone numbers, annual income and calculated loan limits. Customers' personal credit information was also leaked at KB Kookmin Bank and Hana Bank that day following attacks by external hacking groups. BNK Busan Bank likewise suffered a leak of personal information belonging to 11 outsourced development employees following an attempted attack on an external web server using an artificial intelligence (AI) agent.
