Chung-Ang University Graduate School of Advanced Imaging held the acting contest 'Show Me the Acting–Chung-Ang Paran Acting Contest' to discover new actors, with Heo Hye-su winning the Grand Prize. Now in its third year, the competition featured 20 actors who advanced to the finals after preliminary auditions.
The competition was organized to discover new actors in the independent film industry and expand exchanges among actors, directors and producers. Both newcomers and actors with professional experience applied.
This year, the allotted performance time in the finals was extended from 60 to 90 seconds, and a prescribed-situation performance was added. Directors from Chung-Ang University Graduate School of Advanced Imaging, independent film directors and representatives from management agencies attended the final round.
The judging panel consisted of actor Jung In-gi, producer Shin Chang-hwan, director Kim Sujin, and Choi Jeong-in and Son Tae-gyeom, professors at Chung-Ang University Graduate School of Advanced Imaging. The contestants were evaluated in five categories: voice and diction, emotional authenticity, level of immersion, expressiveness and stage presence. A separate audience judging panel made up of 20 graduate students also selected two recipients of the 'Director's Choice' award.
Heo Hye-su won the Grand Prize. Actor Jung In-gi praised her, saying, "She expressed the duality of the character so well that she showed a surprisingly wide range of sides in a short period of time." Oh Seo-won won the Best Performance Award, while Lee Myung-gyu received the Jury Special Award. Pyo Ki-hoon received a Special Mention. Heo Hye-su and Kim Un-gyo were selected for Director's Choice, making Heo Hye-su a double award winner.
Heo Hye-su said, "I started acting later in life, determined to stick with it for 10 years," adding, "I was nearly reaching the 10-year mark I had committed to, so I applied with the mindset that I should take on any challenge. I am happy to receive this award."
Lee Changjae, dean of Chung-Ang University Graduate School of Advanced Imaging, stated, "This event began to promote exchanges between campus directors and actors and create new opportunities for collaboration. It is meaningful to see participation and interest broaden with each passing year," adding, "I hope the event will continue to develop into a venue where creators seeking to produce outstanding works and talented actors meet and create new possibilities."
