[Financial News] Sam Chun Dang Pharm. will set up its first independent booth at the world's largest pharmaceutical exhibition and seek to expand direct partnerships with global pharmaceutical companies.
Beyond its existing ophthalmic drugs and Eylea biosimilar exports, the company will begin substantive discussions on technology transfers and co-development involving next-generation pipelines such as oral insulin, oral GLP-1 drugs, and long-acting injectables.
On the 2nd, Sam Chun Dang Pharm. said it would set up its first independent booth at 'CPHI Worldwide 2026,' held in Milan, Italy, from the 6th to the 8th. From 2011 through last year, it participated through a joint booth in the Korea Pavilion operated by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the Korea Pharmaceutical Traders Association, but it is switching to an independent space this year. This shift is tied to the expansion of its overseas business. The strategy is to move away from an exhibition-oriented joint pavilion, increase individual meetings with global pharmaceutical companies and partners, and broaden negotiations from product supply to technology transfers and co-development.
The company will place its products that have already reached the commercialization stage at the forefront. It will showcase the Eylea biosimilar 'SCD411 (Bizenfree),' which is sold in Korea, Canada, and major European countries, along with ophthalmic drugs for glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and allergic conjunctivitis that are exported to Europe and the United States. It will also introduce follow-on retinal-disease biosimilars, including a high-dose Eylea product.
Attention is focused on commercialization negotiations for its development-stage pipeline. Sam Chun Dang Pharm. plans to hold individual consultations with global pharmaceutical companies on technology transfers and co-development involving oral insulin, oral GLP-1 drugs, long-acting injectables, and immuno-oncology biosimilars.
In particular, oral drug-delivery technology that converts injectable drugs into oral medications and long-acting formulations that extend the duration of efficacy are areas that Sam Chun Dang Pharm. is developing as new growth drivers following its biosimilar business. Its representative pipelines include oral insulin and oral semaglutide.
Sam Chun Dang Pharm. supplies sterile ophthalmic drugs to Europe and the United States using manufacturing facilities certified under EU GMP. After beginning exports of travoprost ophthalmic solution to Europe in 2022, it also began full-scale overseas shipments of SCD411 last year.
A company official said, "Based on our manufacturing capabilities that meet the production and quality-control standards of regulatory authorities in Europe and the United States, we will expand the scope of cooperation with global partners and continue developing overseas markets."
An industry source said, "The shift from participating in a joint pavilion to an independent booth can be seen as a decision to focus more on business-development discussions with individual partners than on simply promoting products." The source added, "The key point to watch is whether development pipelines, including oral insulin and GLP-1 drugs, lead to actual partnerships in addition to the existing export products."
