[Financial News] Opinions are divided over a passenger who booked two train seats to travel comfortably alone. Some argue that there is nothing wrong with using a seat that was paid for, while others criticize the practice, saying it can prevent other passengers from using the seat when seats are in short supply.
The incident became known through a post on an online community titled, "Was it wrong to book two seats because I wanted to ride the train alone?"
Passenger A said they had booked two seats to travel comfortably alone. When a woman tried to sit in the adjacent seat, Passenger A explained that a companion was expected to arrive. However, when no one appeared for about 20 minutes, the woman asked Passenger A why the seat was being kept vacant.
Passenger A eventually called a station employee. The employee explained that Passenger A had purchased both seats, but the woman reportedly responded by asking whether she could not use the seat as well. Passenger A expressed displeasure, saying, "I booked two seats so I could travel comfortably, so why are you making an issue of it?"
Online commenters were divided over Passenger A's actions. Some criticized the decision, saying that other passengers should also be considered when seats are scarce, such as on weekends or during vacation seasons. One commenter pointed out, "Honestly, it's selfish. Weekend trains are usually sold out, so doesn't that mean someone else might not be able to board?"
Others argued that how to use the seats is up to the person who booked them, as long as the full fare was paid. Commenters defended Passenger A, saying, "What's wrong with booking my own seat with my own money?" and "It's more inconsiderate to try to sit there without paying."
