[Financial News] The Seoul Welfare Foundation is conducting fire safety education using virtual reality (VR) for residents of independent living homes and supported housing for people with disabilities. The program is designed to help people with disabilities build the ability to respond to emergencies on their own by repeatedly experiencing disasters such as fires in their actual living spaces. The Seoul Welfare Foundation announced on the 2nd that, together with Ttuit, a disaster safety technology company, it is pursuing the "Digital Safety Welfare Project" to improve residential safety for people with disabilities.
The project was launched to strengthen the safety of people with disabilities who may have difficulty evacuating during disasters because of physical or sensory limitations. Based on an agreement with Ttuit, the foundation will visit independent living homes and supported housing for people with disabilities to provide VR-based fire safety education.
Rather than delivering disaster response guidance through lectures, the program allows participants to experience environments similar to real-life situations through VR. It helps them recognize dangerous situations such as fires and repeatedly learn evacuation routes so they can respond independently when an actual disaster occurs.
The foundation expects that combining private-sector VR technology with public welfare infrastructure will improve the effectiveness of the training while reducing the cost burden on welfare providers.
Yoo Yeon-hee, head of SWF’s Social Services Support Center, said, "We will take the lead in creating an environment where residents with disabilities can protect their own safety without being left behind in any disaster by actively adopting digital inclusion technologies."
