[Financial News] Koscom has established a digital education space for children and teenagers in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, and launched efforts to support the development of future IT talent.
The initiative aims to reduce educational disparities between regions and social groups and strengthen the digital capabilities of future generations by creating an environment where children can directly learn and experience digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and coding.
Koscom announced on the 2nd that it held an opening ceremony last month on the 30th for its first IT Hope Classroom at Bisan General Social Welfare Center in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province.
The IT Hope Classroom is an educational space designed to allow children and teenagers to learn and experience digital technologies such as AI and coding.
Koscom worked with Anyang City and ChildFund Korea to transform a program room at the welfare center into a digital education space. It provided 83 million won to remodel the facility and equip it with educational materials, including AI learning kits and smart boards.
The opening ceremony was attended by Yoon Chang-hyun, president of Koscom; Choi Dae-ho, mayor of Anyang; Sin Jeong-won, head of ChildFund Korea's Social Contribution Partnership Division; and Ryu Seung-yong, director of Bisan General Social Welfare Center. They held an unveiling ceremony and toured the educational space and its programs.
The IT Hope Classroom will operate the digital education program 'Koscom Pass Frontier' for 24 upper-grade elementary school students from October through November.
The program is designed around hands-on activities in which students work directly with technology and create their own projects. It will offer a range of activities, including physical AI education using robots and autonomous driving technology and AI-based content creation, to enhance students' understanding and ability to use digital technologies.
The program is meaningful because it gives students opportunities to experience AI technology firsthand and use it creatively, going beyond simple theoretical learning. Koscom plans to use the initiative to increase interest in future IT fields and help students discover their aptitudes and potential.
In addition to establishing the IT Hope Classroom and supporting digital education, Koscom has continued various social contribution activities for vulnerable groups in Anyang City, including holiday donation campaigns and housing-environment improvements.
This project is also an extension of Koscom's existing social contribution efforts, as it works with the local community to build educational infrastructure and provide future generations with meaningful learning opportunities.
Yoon Chang-hyun, president of Koscom, said, "We hope this will become a space where children can learn about and experience new technologies firsthand and discover their own potential." He added, "We will continue expanding educational opportunities so that future generations can develop their digital capabilities."
