[Financial News] KREB conducted training on the greenhouse gas target management system for major construction companies in South Korea.
KREB said on the 2nd that it had held the training to support greenhouse gas reductions in the construction industry and improve participants' understanding of the target management system.
The greenhouse gas target management system is a framework established under the Framework Act on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth to set greenhouse gas reduction targets and manage emissions from covered entities. Covered entities include construction companies with emissions of at least 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2eq) at the company level or 15,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent at the business-site level. In December 2016, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) designated KREB as the agency responsible for the system's practical operations, and KREB has operated the system since then.
The training focused on operating the system and managing emissions at construction sites. Topics included understanding the target management system and methods for establishing an inventory of greenhouse gas emission sources; response measures for the construction industry regarding carbon regulations and climate disclosures; methods for collecting activity data and responding to verification; and an introduction to a system for forecasting and managing greenhouse gas emissions at construction sites.
Lee Jeong-hwan, head of the Industrial Support Division, said, "We hope this training will improve the understanding of the greenhouse gas target management system among construction companies' staff in charge of related operations and help them perform their duties more efficiently." He added, "We will continue to work closely with construction companies and actively support them so that the construction industry can achieve its greenhouse gas reduction targets."
