[Financial News] The KFS conducted an intensive review of the National Pine Wilt Disease Control Response Team and regional control efforts to prevent the nationwide spread of Pine Wilt Disease.
The KFS said Deputy Commissioner Lim Ha-su chaired the "Second National Control Situation Management Meeting" at Government Complex Daejeon on the 2nd and reviewed the response team's operations and regional control efforts. Officials in charge of the response team and personnel from departments responsible for forest pests and diseases attended the meeting.
Participants shared the response team's field activity results and future control plans, while hearing the results of regional inspections and the difficulties encountered at local sites. In particular, because Pine Wilt Disease tends to spread across administrative boundaries, they focused on developing tailored control strategies suited to regional conditions and exploring the necessary support measures.
Deputy Commissioner Lim said, "Because Pine Wilt Disease spreads across regional boundaries, there are limits to what any single local government can do on its own. The national and local governments will share information closely and swiftly implement control strategies to protect our precious pine forests."
Meanwhile, Pine Wilt Disease is transmitted by the vector beetles Monochamus alternatus and Monochamus saltuarius, and infected trees show a 100% mortality rate. As hot, dry weather caused by recent climate change continues, the vectors' active period is lengthening and their habitats are shifting northward, causing the damage to spread nationwide.
