[Financial News] GS Retail conducted a cemetery cleanup volunteer service at Seoul National Cemetery to honor fallen heroes and patriotic martyrs on Armed Forces Day.
According to industry sources on the 2nd, GS Retail conducted the volunteer service the previous day with 53 executives, including CEO Heo Seo-hong, taking part at Seoul National Cemetery in Dongjak-gu, Seoul. After paying their respects at the Memorial Tower and signing the visitors' book, the participants cleaned gravestones and removed weeds in Plot 39.
Plot 39 contains about 1,100 graves of fallen heroes who died during the Korean War, including those killed in a battle near Hill 1090 in Yanggu County in 1952.
GS Retail has continued its volunteer work at Seoul National Cemetery since 2019. In 2024, it formed a sister partnership with Seoul National Cemetery and formalized cemetery cleanup activities in Plot 39 twice a year.
Since last year, GS Retail has also conducted employee volunteer activities at Daejeon National Cemetery. This year, about 25 employees from the Daejeon area took part in cleanup activities, including collecting litter, on May 29.
Park Gyeong-rang, head of GS Retail's environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) team, said, "The cemetery cleanup volunteer service is a meaningful activity that helps us remember the noble sacrifices of those who gave their lives defending the nation and allows our employees to reflect on what those sacrifices meant."
