[Financial News, Daegu — Reporter Kim Jang-wook] Nam District, Daegu is stepping up efforts to expand international exchanges.
Nam District, Daegu will participate in the 2026 Taiwan New Textile Exhibition, which will be held in Taipei City on the 6th, together with the Daegu–Gyeongbuk Natural Dyeing Cooperative. The district plans to promote efforts to help local small businesses develop overseas sales channels and attract foreign tourists.
Jo Jae-gu, mayor of Nam District, said, "In an era of globalization, it is important to go beyond administrative-level international exchanges and ensure that local companies, small businesses, and the tourism industry can connect with overseas markets to enhance the competitiveness of the region."
He added, "We will actively expand administrative support so that we can increase demand for overseas medical tourism by leveraging the region's outstanding medical infrastructure, while also helping local small businesses develop new sales channels and enter overseas markets."
Along with participating in the Taiwan New Textile Exhibition, Nam District plans to visit the Taiwan Tourism Association and a local government in Taiwan known for hot-spring tourism to explore potential cooperation in tourism. The district will also actively promote key tourist attractions, including Apsan Laundry Park and Apsan Mountain Haeneomi Observatory.
The Taiwan New Textile Exhibition, which marks its 30th anniversary this year, is an international textile event that draws around 400 companies from 37 countries worldwide each year. A total of 10 companies and organizations from Daegu, including the Textile Industry Association, are also expected to participate to showcase the excellence of the region's textile industry and explore opportunities to enter overseas markets.
In particular, Nam District has continued to expand international exchanges that can provide tangible benefits to local businesspeople and small businesses, including signing a memorandum of understanding last year with the Zhengzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone in Henan Province, a national-level economic development zone in China. It is also continuing efforts to attract foreign tourists through tourism-related initiatives.
Since the completion of Apsan Laundry Park and Apsan Mountain Haeneomi Observatory, the district has made developing inbound travel packages and attracting tourists key projects aimed at increasing the influx of foreign visitors, with a focus on major local tourist attractions.
Officials from Gwanjung Media Group, a short-form drama production company that signed a memorandum of understanding with Nam District, visited the Apsan Festival held in July. They toured local tourism resources and spent time engaging in exchanges. In addition, a considerable number of foreign tourists visit major attractions in Nam District, including Apsan Laundry Park and Apsan Mountain Haeneomi Observatory, every month.
