According to sports industry sources on the 2nd, South Korea lost to India 1–3 in the men's volleyball 5th–8th place classification match at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, held as part of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The set scores were 16–25, 20–25, 25–23 and 23–25. As a result, South Korea fell into the 7th–8th place playoff.
After defeating the Philippines and Taiwan in Group D, South Korea advanced to the quarterfinals in second place in the group after losing 2–3 to China in a hard-fought five-set match. China was the runner-up at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
South Korea also fought through a five-set battle against Iran in the quarterfinals on the 1st, but lost 2–3.
South Korea is now at risk of recording its worst-ever result.
Men's volleyball won a medal at every Asian Games from the 1966 Bangkok Asian Games through the 2018 Asian Games. However, South Korea finished seventh at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, its worst result in history.
South Korea will face the loser of the Qatar–Thailand match in the 7th–8th place playoff on the 3rd.
