[Financial News] Go Beom-seok, chief of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, urged investigative commanders to adopt an exceptional attitude, saying that the police face substantially greater responsibility with the implementation of the new criminal justice system.
At a meeting of investigative commanders held at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency headquarters in Jongno District, Seoul, on the 2nd, Go said, "Today is a historic day as the new criminal justice system officially begins. It is also true that public expectations and concerns are high."
He went on to emphasize, "Our responsibility has become that much heavier, and our attitude and mindset in dealing with this situation must also be exceptional."
The meeting was attended by police station chiefs and heads of investigative departments from across Seoul, along with other investigative commanders. Go said, "This will be a meaningful occasion for the commanders responsible for investigations by the Seoul police to gather in one place and share current issues across their respective functions."
The meeting was organized to review the Seoul police's investigative command structure on the first day the amended Criminal Procedure Act of the Republic of Korea took effect and to share response strategies for the new criminal justice system. The previous day, the Korean National Police Agency also held a nationwide meeting of police investigative commanders, attended by about 650 people, including heads of investigative departments at metropolitan and provincial police agencies at the rank of superintendent general or above, as well as police station chiefs. It was the first time in about 25 months since August 2024 that commanders at or above the level of police station chief from across the country had gathered in one place.
