[Financial News] Mercedes-Benz Korea said on the 2nd that it had provided the all-new electric Mercedes-Benz CLA, scheduled for release in the fourth quarter, and used it to demonstrate the technology at a Plug and Charge (PnC) event held on the 1st at KERI's Ansan Branch by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment.
The event was hosted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and jointly organized by the Korea Environment Corporation (K-eco) and KERI. It was held to verify whether automatic EV charging and payment technology using a public authentication system works with actual vehicles and chargers, and whether it is compatible across different vehicle manufacturers and charger makers. Six domestic and overseas EV models and three public fast chargers were used, with the all-new electric Mercedes-Benz CLA also participating in the vehicle demonstrations.
PnC is an international standards-based technology that automatically authenticates an EV using a certificate stored in the vehicle when a charging cable is connected, starts charging, and automatically bills the registered payment method once charging is complete. After users complete membership registration, payment method registration and vehicle certificate installation once, they do not need to tap a charging card or open a separate app when using PnC-compatible vehicles and chargers.
Mercedes-Benz Korea plans to make PnC available in new EV models, including the all-new electric Mercedes-Benz CLA and the all-new electric GLC, with the goal of launching the service in South Korea in the first quarter of 2027. The actual availability date may vary depending on the vehicle model and model year.
The company currently operates the integrated charging service MB.CHARGE Public in cooperation with GS ChargEV. Customers can use the charging networks of GS ChargEV and its roaming partners, while the Mercedes-Benz App allows them to search for nearby charging stations, check real-time availability, find stations along their routes and review charging history. Once the service is activated in PnC-compatible vehicles, authentication and charging can proceed simply by connecting the cable.
Separately, customers who purchase pure electric vehicles from the 2026 model year onward will receive the MB.CHARGE Public PLUS plan free of charge for up to one year. Under the plan, a single rate applies at GS ChargEV and roaming partner charging stations for up to 400 kWh per month: 199 won per kWh for slow charging and 299 won per kWh for fast charging.
