[Financial News] MOLIT Second Vice Minister Jeong Eui-gyeong said on the 2nd, "We will ensure that the balanced development of the national territory, represented by the Five Mega-Regions and Three Special Self-Governing Provinces Strategy, becomes a reality through transportation networks."
At the inauguration ceremony held that day at MOLIT's office in Government Complex Sejong, Vice Minister Jeong said, "We will press ahead without disruption with the expansion of transportation networks connecting major regional hubs with industries and jobs, and expand transportation services that people can actually use in their regions."
The key policy directions outlined by Vice Minister Jeong are balanced development, industrial innovation and public safety.
Regarding industrial innovation, he said, "We will connect new technologies and services, including autonomous driving, UAM and demand-responsive transportation, to people's everyday lives, and create an environment in which they can coexist and grow with the existing transportation industry." At the same time, he expressed his determination to promote research, development and demonstration of future mobility and advanced transportation technologies, while laying the industrial foundation needed to enhance Korean companies' competitiveness in global markets.
Vice Minister Jeong then said, "We will make safety the top priority across all transportation sectors, including railways, roads and aviation," adding, "There is no value more important than the lives of the people." He explained, "To that end, I will visit transportation and logistics sites, airports, railways and roads in person to hear the voices of the public and those working in the field."
In addition, Vice Minister Jeong said, "The future of the national territory will ultimately be completed on the 'roads' that connect people and regions," adding, "We will closely link plans for the land and transportation sectors and produce results that people can actually use and experience."
