【Financial News, Incheon—Han Gap-su, Reporter】 Hana Financial Group has begun full-scale operations in Incheon’s Cheongna following the completion of its headquarters relocation to Cheongna International City.
Incheon Metropolitan City Government announced on the 2nd that it had held an opening event for Hana Financial Group’s Cheongna Headquarters in Cheongna International City.
Hana Financial Group’s relocation to Cheongna began in 2012, when Incheon Metropolitan City Government, Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZ), Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), and Hana Financial Group signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a financial town.
The Integrated Data Center, which consolidated financial IT infrastructure, opened in 2017, followed by the launch of Hana Global Campus in 2019 to train global financial talent. The group’s headquarters was completed in May this year, and the relocation of employees from major affiliates began in earnest in September.
Approximately 2,200 employees from 10 affiliates, including Hana Financial Group, Hana Bank, Hana Securities, and Hana Card, will relocate to the Cheongna Headquarters in stages. Including employees already working at the Integrated Data Center, the number of finance and IT professionals working at Hana Financial Town will reach approximately 4,000.
Incheon Metropolitan City Government expects stronger links among the financial, IT, data, and digital industries as Hana Financial Group’s headquarters, major affiliates, IT infrastructure, and artificial intelligence (AI) research and development functions become concentrated in Cheongna.
Hana Financial Group estimates that the direct and indirect economic impact of the headquarters relocation will amount to approximately 3.4 trillion won over the next 10 years. The direct and indirect employment impact, including the inflow of partner companies, is expected to reach approximately 15,000 jobs.
Hana Financial Group also plans to expand financial support for businesses in the Incheon area following the relocation to Cheongna. It plans to establish a 200 billion won “Unicorn Fund” to foster innovative companies in Incheon and secure up to 400 billion won in investment resources through fund-manager matching. The group will also provide a total of 150 billion won in guarantees for technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises.
IFEZ plans to link the impact of Hana Financial Group’s relocation to follow-up investment attraction in Cheongna and the Incheon Free Economic Zone.
It plans to attract companies involved in digital finance, including digital assets, fintech, blockchain, and data. It will also seek to attract overseas financial institutions and foreign-invested companies by leveraging Incheon International Airport’s accessibility and Hana Financial Group’s global network.
IFEZ also plans to expand the financial industry ecosystem by connecting its existing industrial base, supported by international organizations and climate finance, with Cheongna’s private-sector and digital financial industries.
Mayor Park Chan-dae said at the event, "It is deeply moving to see 15 years of investment attraction efforts bear fruit with the completion of Hana Financial Town. Even as the financial environment and economic conditions changed several times, Hana Financial Group kept its promise and put down roots in Cheongna one step at a time."
