[Financial News] Incheon International Airport has been named Asia's leading large airport by a global aviation industry analysis organization. After ranking first worldwide in international passenger traffic in the first half of the year, it also received high marks for its transfer network and airport operations capabilities. Incheon International Airport plans to accelerate efforts to expand medium- and long-haul routes to North America, Europe and India following the award.
Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 2nd that it received the "Asia's Large Airport of the Year Award," selected by the Asia Pacific Aviation Center, on the 1st.
CAPA is a specialized organization that analyzes the global aviation industry. Each year, it presents the CAPA Aviation Industry Awards after evaluating the strategic performance of airports and airlines, as well as their contributions to the development of the aviation industry.
The Asia's Large Airport of the Year Award is presented to an Asian airport that handles at least 30 million passengers annually and has demonstrated outstanding strategic performance while making a significant contribution to the development of the aviation industry.
Incheon International Airport received high marks for ranking first worldwide in international passenger traffic in the first half of the year, based on the transfer network and operational competitiveness it has built over 25 years since opening.
In its award announcement, CAPA said, "Incheon Airport has set new standards in customer experience and operational performance since the early days of its opening," and assessed that "its role is expanding beyond Korea's gateway to that of a transfer hub for the Asia-Pacific region."
It added, "Incheon Airport's standing in the Asia-Pacific aviation market is expected to become even more prominent in the future."
The ceremony took place on the 1st at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit - Asia, held at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, Japan. About 300 aviation industry officials from around the world attended the event.
Incheon International Airport plans to further strengthen its route network and transfer competitiveness following the award. It will expand marketing efforts to attract airlines launching new services, focusing on medium- and long-haul routes to North America, Europe and India, while also actively encouraging interline agreements between airlines.
Interlining is an arrangement under which passengers can connect between multiple flights using a single ticket through agreements between airlines. Incheon International Airport plans to use this system to improve transfer convenience and expand demand for new connecting flights.
Lee Sang-yong, head of the New Business Division at Incheon International Airport Corporation, said, "It is very meaningful to receive the Asia's Large Airport of the Year Award, which is selected through a rigorous evaluation by experts in the global aviation industry," adding, "We will continue to expand our aviation network and establish ourselves as a leading global airport."
