【Financial News Jeju = Jung Yong-bok, reporter】 A family-oriented content festival showcasing animations, webtoons, characters, and games produced in Jeju will be held in Seogwipo on the 10th, allowing visitors to see the works and try creating them themselves.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and the Jeju Content Promotion Institute will host the 2026 Jeju Ani Island Festival at the Asia CGI Animation Center in Seogwipo City from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 10th.
The event goes beyond displaying works by Jeju-based content companies and creators. It is designed to let visitors take part directly in the production process.
Major programs include an animation dubbing experience featuring 'Pongdang Family,' Jeju character keycap making, arcade games, children's cosplay, and a character playground.
The content production one-day classes will give participants hands-on experience creating web games using artificial intelligence (AI), making webtoons, and designing characters and emoticons. The event will also feature screenings of animations produced in Jeju, character merchandise displays, a puppet show, and prize giveaways.
Some programs will operate through advance registration. Applications for the animation dubbing experience and content production one-day classes will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until 6 p.m. on the 8th. Participants can apply through the notices section of the Jeju Content Promotion Institute website.
The event will also put the actual creators behind Jeju's content industry in the spotlight. Works and characters by eight animation companies based in Jeju and 10 webtoon artists based at the Asia CGI Animation Center will be displayed throughout the venue.
Kkiyo, the mascot of the National Sports Festival, will also take part in the event. A collaborative program linked to the Seogwipo Jungang-dong Urban Regeneration Field Support Center is also scheduled.
The Jeju Ani Island Festival is significant because it is designed not merely as an event for children, but as a venue where the creators and consumers of locally produced content can meet in person.
Rather than presenting animation, webtoons, characters, and games separately, the event brings hands-on activities, production, and exhibitions together in one space to demonstrate the breadth of Jeju's content industry.
In recent years, the local content industry has expanded beyond products using tourism resources and local characters into intellectual property-based sectors such as webtoons, animation, and games. The event will also serve as a direct point of contact through which companies and creators active in Jeju can introduce their content to residents and tourists.
Lee Jeong-cheol, a research associate at the Jeju Content Promotion Institute, said, "We prepared the event so that visitors can see and enjoy the diverse content created in Jeju firsthand." He added, "Using an autumn sports-day concept, we organized programs that families can enjoy together."
