[Financial News] Optical communications-related stocks surged in early trading on the 2nd.
According to the Korea Exchange (KRX), as of 9:46 a.m., telecommunications equipment maker Mercury was up 1,435 won, or 29.80%, from the previous day's close, hitting the upper price limit at 6,250 won.
Other optical communications-related stocks also posted gains, including TAIHAN Fiberoptics (5.35%), OE Solutions (14.31%), WooriNet (5.42%), Solid (6.70%), and LiComm (5.3%).
The gains appear to be driven by expectations that these companies will benefit from the upgrading of ultra-high-speed wired and wireless transmission networks and optical communications infrastructure as artificial intelligence (AI) data centers expand and high-volume traffic increases.
In particular, during overnight trading in New York, optical communications stocks Coherent (10.90%), Ciena (7.77%), and Lumentum (7.67%) posted strong gains on news that Micron Technology was increasing its capital expenditures (CapEx).
