[Financial News] Lim Eun-jung, 52, chief prosecutor of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office who was tapped to head the Gwangju Serious Crime Investigation Agency, held her farewell ceremony on the 1st, one day before the establishment of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency and the Public Prosecution Office.
At the closed-door ceremony, Lim said, "Along with my colleagues who are heading to the Serious Crime Investigation Agency, I leave behind here the names of proud South Korean prosecutors and prosecution investigators." She added, "This is the time to leave behind our profound sorrow and disgraceful dark chapter and depart toward a new tomorrow."
She continued, "This situation is the sad result of the prosecution service, which had been an aggressor of its time." She added, "It is upsetting, but now is the time to face reality and find our direction and path."
Lim also shed tears as she delivered her farewell address.
A member of the 30th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, Lim has been regarded as a leading reform-minded figure who has consistently criticized and called for reforms within the prosecution service. As she moves to the Serious Crime Investigation Agency, Seo Jeong-min, former director of the Ministry of Justice's Legal Affairs Office, will head the reorganized Seoul Eastern District Public Prosecution Office.
