[Financial News]  The owner of a cafe that enjoyed an unexpected boom after visitors flocked to see the shark 'Bukang-i' in the artificial canal at Bukhang Waterfront Park has given part of the proceeds back to the local community.
On the 1st, Dong-gu, Busan, announced that Kang Gi-seong, owner of EDIYA COFFEE's Bukhang Waterfront Park branch, had visited the district office and delivered a 1 million won hometown love donation.
Kang said, "I am pleased that Bukhang Waterfront Park has become known nationwide thanks to 'Bukang-i,' and I would like to thank the relevant agencies for their hard work at the scene. I decided to donate the proceeds to the local community to express my gratitude to the visitors who warmly supported us despite the inadequate service caused by the sudden influx of people."
Earlier, when the shark Bukang-i appeared in the artificial canal at Bukhang Waterfront Park, visitors flocked to see it up close, giving nearby businesses, including the cafe run by Kang, an unexpected boom.
At the time, Kang wrote on social media, "The sudden appearance of the shark led us to mobilize not only our store employees but even our family members to make drinks, but it still wasn't enough. The rumors that I released the shark, am feeding it, or am blocking its way to the sea are not true, but I do feel like buying a few boxes of mackerel for it."
Meanwhile, the Hometown Love Donation System allows individuals to donate to a local government outside the area listed as their resident registration address. The local government uses the donations to improve residents' welfare, while donors can receive tax deductions and return gifts worth up to 30% of the donation.
Kang Cheol-ho, head of Dong-gu, said, "I thank Kang Gi-seong for sharing his warmth through this virtuous cycle. We will use the donation carefully and transparently where it is needed to improve the welfare of Dong-gu residents."
