Residential, Commercial and Community SOC Complex to Be Built Around Jungnang Station... Station Area Revitalization Project Moves Forward

[Financial News] The area around Jungnanggyo Shopping Center in Jungnang-gu, Seoul, will be transformed into a mixed-use complex combining residential, commercial and community SOC facilities.
According to Jungnang-gu on the 2nd, the area around Jungnanggyo Shopping Center at 129-9 Sangbong-dong was selected as a project site following the 13th meeting of the Seoul Station Area Revitalization Project Support Advisory Committee.
The site is located at the entrance to Dongbu Market-gil and is included in the Sangbong Neighborhood Center District Unit Plan Area.
Jungnang-gu plans to revitalize the neighborhood around Jungnang Station by renovating the aging market and pursuing mixed-use development that combines residential, commercial and community SOC facilities.
This is the first case in Jungnang-gu to be implemented since the Seoul Metropolitan Government revised its operating standards for the Station Area Revitalization Project. The revised standards ease upzoning and public-contribution requirements even in station areas in non-core locations, allowing mixed-use development to proceed in areas that previously lacked favorable development conditions.
Jungnang-gu plans to upzone the project site, currently a semi-residential area, to a neighborhood commercial area to encourage high-density, mixed-use development. The existing market, which is an urban planning facility, will be modernized and linked to the Dongbu Market-gil Specialization Project to create a hub attracting visitors to the area.
The district also plans to secure public-contribution facilities that take into account the surrounding population and demand for public services.
Jungnang District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, "The selection of this site has laid the groundwork for fully launching the Station Area Revitalization Project in Jungnang-gu. We will continue providing administrative support to create an open-air traditional market at the entrance to Dongbu Market-gil and revitalize the local commercial district."
