Lee & Ko announced on the 2nd that it had hired Je as a partner in its Financial Securities Group.
Je graduated from the College of Law at Korea University (KU) and earned a master's degree in law from its graduate school. After working in corporate and financial advisory services, Je worked from 2013 to 2018 at the Financial Supervisory Service's Corporate Finance Improvement Department, Sanctions Review Department and Capital Markets Investigation Department 1, gaining practical experience in financial regulation and capital markets supervision.
Je currently serves as a member of the Financial Supervisory Service's No-Action Letter Review Committee, a legal adviser to the Financial Services Commission (FSC), and an expert member of the Financial Supervisory Service's Financial Dispute Mediation Committee. Je is also active as an external expert for the financial authorities.
Through Je's addition, Lee & Ko plans to strengthen its ability to respond to inspections and sanctions by financial supervisory authorities, investigations into violations of the Capital Markets Act such as unfair trading, and financial dispute mediation. In particular, Je has experience in both supervisory work at financial authorities and advising financial companies, leading the firm to expect Je to demonstrate expertise in financial institutions' regulatory responses and dispute-resolution processes.
Kim Sang-gon, managing partner at Lee & Ko, emphasized, "Je is a professional who possesses both hands-on experience in supervision, inspections and investigations by financial supervisory authorities and expertise in specialized legal services for the financial sector. As demand from financial-sector clients for regulatory responses and dispute resolution continues to grow, we expect Je's arrival to further strengthen the competitiveness of the Financial Securities Group."
Meanwhile, Lee & Ko has been expanding the Financial Securities Group by recruiting a series of experts from financial authorities. In addition to hiring Shin Sang-rok, former head of the Capital Markets Investigation General Division at the Financial Services Commission, in March, it has also recruited Jung Wan-gyu, former head of the Financial Intelligence Unit at the FSC; Chae Moon-seok, former deputy director of the Sanctions Review Coordination Team at the Financial Supervisory Service's Sanctions Review Department; Ahn Byung-nam, former head of the Ongoing Monitoring Team at the Financial Supervisory Service's Bank Examination Department 1; and attorney Kim Yong-jin, who worked in the Financial Supervisory Service's Financial Investment Examination Department 2 and Dispute Mediation Department 3.
