[Financial News] Bae, Kim & Lee (BKL) has recruited Moon Hong-sung, former chief prosecutor of the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office (26th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute · Photo) to strengthen its capabilities in corporate criminal defense and white-collar crime.
BKL announced on the 2nd that former Chief Prosecutor Moon would join its Criminal Group and handle matters primarily involving corporate criminal defense and white-collar crime.
He has been regarded as one of the prosecution’s leading specialists in special investigations. After serving as head of the Third Special Investigation Department at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, head of the Special Investigation Department at the Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office, and deputy head of the Joint Investigation Team for Defense Acquisition Program Corruption, he handled major corruption and economic crime investigations in the corporate, financial and defense sectors.
After being promoted to chief prosecutor, he served as chief prosecutor of the Changwon District Prosecutors’ Office and the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office before becoming head of the Anti-Corruption and Violent Crimes Department at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office of the Republic of Korea (SPO), where he directed major corruption and economic crime investigations. Until leaving the prosecution after serving as chief prosecutor of the Jeonju District Prosecutors’ Office, he gained broad experience ranging from direct investigations at frontline offices to directing investigations at the SPO and district prosecutors’ offices.
BKL expects Moon’s arrival to further strengthen its ability to respond to corporate criminal cases from the initial investigation stage through trial. Drawing on his experience in special investigations and directing investigations at the prosecution, Moon plans to analyze the key issues in criminal cases faced by companies and present response strategies tailored to each stage of the investigation.
Depending on the nature of each case, he will collaborate with BKL experts in areas including finance and securities, fair trade, serious accidents and industrial safety, trade secrets and technology leaks. The firm plans to combine expertise in individual regulatory fields with criminal defense capabilities to handle complex corporate cases.
Jung Soo-bong, managing partner and head of BKL’s Criminal Group, said, "Because the facts, evidence and response arguments established in the early stages of corporate criminal cases can carry through to subsequent investigations and trials, it is important to take the entire process into account from the outset." He added, "By combining Attorney Moon’s extensive investigation and investigative leadership experience with BKL’s expertise across practice areas, we will quickly identify the key issues in each case and present comprehensive strategies covering the investigation through trial from the earliest stage."
