【Financial News, Jeonnam-Gwangju = Reporter Hwang Tae-jong】Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City (Gwangju Metropolitan City) will stage the second-half performances of "Visiting Cultural Performances—By Your Side" every Saturday from the 3rd through Nov. 21 to expand residents' opportunities to enjoy culture and the arts. However, there will be no performance on Oct. 31.
The performances will be held at one venue in each autonomous district: Dong-gu Cultural Center in Dong-gu, Sangmu Citizens Park in Seo-gu, Mulbit Neighborhood Park in Nam-gu, Yangsan Lake Park in Buk-gu, and Suwan Lake Park in Gwangsan-gu. Depending on the schedule, each venue will host three to four performances.
Hwang In-chae, head of the Culture Division at Gwangju Metropolitan City, said, "We have been running 'Visiting Cultural Performances' since last year to expand residents' opportunities to enjoy culture and provide local artists with more chances to take part in performances. We hope residents will be able to experience culture and the arts more easily in their daily lives."
This year's 'Visiting Cultural Performances' will feature performances in a range of genres, including popular music, traditional arts, theater, and classical music.
On the opening day, the 3rd, the band Eonjena Bom will present "A Musical Stroll with Eonjena Bom" in front of Dong-gu Cultural Center from 3 p.m.
At the same time, the dance performance "A Fleeting Dance, an Eternal Tradition" will be staged at Mulbit Neighborhood Park in Nam-gu, while Suwan Lake Park in Gwangsan-gu will host the traditional performance "FIT: A New Wave of Traditional Performance."
Meanwhile, 30 of the 32 groups participating in this year's 'Visiting Cultural Performances'—13 in the first half and 17 in the second half—are local organizations, including municipal performing arts troupes. This brings the proportion of participating local organizations to 94%, which is 12 percentage points higher than last year's 82%.
Hwang In-chae, head of the Culture Division at Gwangju Metropolitan City, stated, "We will work to ensure that people of all ages can enjoy the performances by further diversifying the programs."
