[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung approved the request for a parliamentary confirmation hearing for Kim Ji-yong, nominee for chief of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency, on the 1st.
Kang Yoo-jung, a senior spokesperson at Cheong Wa Dae, announced this in a notice to the media on the 2nd.
The National Assembly's confirmation hearing process for Kim is set to begin in earnest about 20 days after his appointment was recommended.
With the Serious Crime Investigation Agency officially launching that day, President Lee also appears to be moving quickly with the follow-up procedures for appointing its inaugural chief.
Earlier, Yun Ho-jung, minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), recommended Kim's appointment on the 7th.
However, after ruling-party hardliners raised claims including that "Kim is a former prosecutor close to Yoon (Yoon Suk Yeol)," President Lee ordered additional vetting. After the vetting was completed, he approved the request for a confirmation hearing on the 1st.
