[Financial News] BTS has made history by becoming the first pop group to surpass $500 million (approximately 680 billion won) in cumulative world tour revenue.
According to Yonhap News Agency on the 1st, BTS's new world tour, Arirang, which kicked off at the main stadium of Goyang Stadium in April, recorded cumulative revenue of $500 million (approximately 680 billion won) in the latest Billboard Boxscore released on the 30th of last month (local time). This marked the seventh-highest total ever recorded by a group.
Billboard noted, "The six acts ahead of BTS were all rock bands, so BTS has entered unprecedented territory as a pop group."
BTS held 12 shows in August and generated total ticket revenue of $171.7 million (approximately 234 billion won). That was the second-highest monthly revenue in Billboard Boxscore history, behind Beyoncé's total in August 2023.
At MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, two shows alone generated $32.7 million (approximately 44.5 billion won) in revenue and drew approximately 158,000 spectators. BTS attracted approximately 800,000 spectators throughout August, placing first on the Top Tour chart.
BTS thus achieved the notable feat of reaching the top of Billboard's Top Tour chart for the fifth time as a group. The record follows Bad Bunny's 10 appearances at No. 1 and seven each by Beyoncé, Coldplay and Elton John.
With approximately 40 more BTS shows scheduled, Billboard projected that the tour's final cumulative revenue could reach $1 billion (approximately 1.36 trillion won).
