[Financial News] As the controversy surrounding the film 'Assassin(s)' spreads to its cast members, a post announcing plans to hold a rally outside lead actor Yoo Hae-jin's home has appeared online. However, the authenticity of the publicly released rally notification has not been verified.
On the 1st, a post titled 'Notification filed for a rally outside the home of the lead actor of Assassin(s)' was uploaded to an online community.
The post included a message from an online user that read, "I have completed the notification to hold a rally outside the home of Yoo Hae-jin, the lead actor in the film Assassin(s)." The user added, "If the rally is held, I expect the agency will move the actor to another residence. I will prove that Yoo Hae-jin ran away from home and fled."
The outdoor rally notification released with the post listed the rally's name as 'Condemnation of Yoo Hae-jin and the Producers of Assassin(s).' It stated that 20 people would attend and that the rally would be held from the 3rd through the 30th of this month.
However, it has not been confirmed whether the post and rally notification were actually filed.
Online users responded critically to the plan to hold a rally outside the actor's home. They said, "They don't know when to stop," "They should go to the production company or director—why hold a rally outside the actor's home?" and "This could backfire and turn public opinion against them."
Meanwhile, the controversy surrounding 'Assassin(s)' has spread beyond its cast members to actors who attended the VIP preview screening and left recommendations for the film. Comments criticizing the film recommendations were posted on the social media accounts of Lee Young-ae, Kim Go-eun and Park Byung-eun, among others, who attended the screening.
In particular, after Kim Go-eun left a recommendation saying, "I felt deeply grateful for the present," some online users criticized her historical awareness.
'Assassin(s)' is based on the 1974 shooting of Yuk Young-soo. The film was directed by Hur Jin-ho and stars Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il and Lee Min-ho, among others.
As the film addresses theories surrounding the forces behind the incident, some have criticized it for distorting history. Debate continues over the boundary between fiction and historical fact in the film.
