[Financial News]  South Korean national wrestler Kim Da-hyun (Korea Armed Forces Athletic Corps) fell short of a medal in the men's Greco-Roman 60 kg class at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. He lost 4-6 in the bronze-medal bout. After the score was tied 4-4, the two points he conceded in the second period decided the match. Kim had regained a medal opportunity through the repechage after losing in the round of 16, but he was unable to achieve his goal in the final bout.
According to the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games results released on the 1st, Kim Da-hyun lost 4-6 to Iraq's Sajjad Ali Mukhasir Albidan in the men's Greco-Roman 60 kg bronze-medal bout held at Inae Sports Center in Nagoya, Japan.
The opening period was closely contested. Kim Da-hyun finished the first period tied 4-4 with Albidan, keeping the match even. However, Albidan scored two points in the second period, and Kim was unable to close the gap before the bout ended.
Kim Da-hyun had earlier lost 0-9 to Kyrgyzstan's Zholaman Sharshenbekov in the round of 16. Kim became eligible for the repechage after Sharshenbekov advanced to the final.
Back in medal contention, Kim Da-hyun defeated Turkmenistan's Azatjan Achilov 12-1 in the repechage. The decisive victory sent him to the bronze-medal bout, but he could not overcome Albidan.
Kim Da-hyun was able to challenge for bronze even after his round-of-16 loss because of wrestling's distinctive repechage system. According to United World Wrestling (UWW), in weight classes with eight or more competitors, athletes who lose to a finalist enter the repechage. The repechage is held in two groups, and the winners face the losers of the respective group semifinals for bronze. As a result, two bronze medals are awarded in each weight class.
The entry list for the men's Greco-Roman 60 kg class at these Games included 17 wrestlers, among them Kim Da-hyun, Sharshenbekov, Albidan and Achilov. Unlike freestyle, Greco-Roman wrestling prohibits attacks that involve grabbing an opponent below the waist. Despite losing his opening bout, Kim received another opportunity after being placed in the bracket of a finalist and then advancing through the repechage, but he ultimately fell short of winning a medal.
