According to LH on the 1st, the Honam Semiconductor High-Tech National Industrial Complex is one of the government's three mega-projects. It will be developed around the area of the former Gwangju Air Base in Gwangsan District, Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, with production facilities such as semiconductor fabs concentrated there.
LH began the process of commissioning the survey and design service immediately after being designated a preliminary project implementer by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) on July 30. It shortened the bidding and contractor selection period from the usual approximately 107 days to 58 days.
The kick-off briefing for the survey and design service for the 'Honam Semiconductor High-Tech National Industrial Complex' was held at the LH Seoul Regional Headquarters on the 1st. Beginning with the briefing, LH will move ahead in earnest with the design procedures for developing the industrial complex.
The survey and design process will analyze ways to link the Honam region's industrial, workforce and research and development bases with the semiconductor industry. Based on this analysis, LH will develop a plan for creating an industrial complex that reflects the region's characteristics and prepare the industrial complex plan by the end of this year.
Once the plan is prepared, LH will apply for approval of the industrial complex plan by the end of this year. It plans to obtain approval by mid-2027 after completing subsequent procedures, including consultations with relevant agencies and deliberation by the Central Industrial Complex Plan Deliberation Committee.
Lee Seong-hoon, president of LH, said, "Through this survey and design service, we will swiftly develop a plan for creating an industrial complex that makes the most of the Honam region's strengths. At the same time, we will work closely with the government and relevant agencies and do our utmost to ensure that the project moves forward quickly."
