【Financial News | Suncheon—Hwang Tae-jong, Reporter】"Take a stroll through Suncheon's national heritage under the moonlight."
Suncheon City will host the '2026 Suncheon National Heritage Night Tour' from the 9th to 11th in the old downtown area, around the Maesandeung Missionary Heritage Sites and Suncheon Hyanggyo.
According to Suncheon City, the event, held under the theme 'Stroll Through Heritage Under the Moonlight,' will go beyond simply opening national heritage sites to visitors. It will be an immersive nighttime festival where residents and tourists can deeply experience their historical value.
In particular, the city will link national heritage sites throughout the old downtown area into a heritage belt and add a variety of signature attractions and stay-based packages to extend the impact of tourism to local commercial districts.
A Suncheon City official said, "The '2026 Suncheon National Heritage Night Tour' is a premium nighttime festival that brings together the value of Suncheon's precious traditional and modern cultural heritage in a multidimensional way. We hope you will stroll through the old downtown area under the moonlight with your family or loved ones and enjoy Suncheon's deep history and the atmosphere of an autumn night."
Suncheon City first plans to organically connect Nammunteo Square, Culture Street, Hanok Geulbang, Suncheon Central Church and the Maesandeung Missionary Heritage Sites, turning the entire old downtown area into one vast historical and cultural belt.
Traditional lanterns and other decorations will be installed at the Seomun Information Center and Culture Street. Subtle indirect lighting will also be added along the Maesandeung forest trails and stone-wall paths to maximize the beauty of the area's historic modern architecture.
An exhibition linked to the 10-day pre-event program, the 'International Architecture City Field Workshop,' will also be held in connection with overseas exchanges involving countries such as India and France, shedding new light on the academic and international value of modern cultural heritage.
Suncheon City will also introduce a wide range of signature attractions designed to engage all five senses. The program will begin with a spectacular opening performance by Saengdonggam Crew and AUX at the main stage of the Seomun Information Center. Other highlights are a screening of the live performance of the musical drama 'Ssanghyangsu,' which tells the legend of the twin fragrant trees at 800-year-old Cheonjaam Hermitage in Songgwangsa Temple; the traditional arts performance 'Seonamsa Temple: Three Treasures,' inspired by heritage sites symbolizing Seonamsa Temple; and the original musical 'The Missionaries' Story: Why They Stayed,' which portrays the lives of missionaries at the Maesandeung heritage sites.
Suncheon City has also prepared various hands-on programs to add to the excitement. They include the 'Maesandeung Time Travel' stamp tour with seven guides dressed as figures from a modern street 100 years ago; 'CODE 1926: Maesandeung Night Tour Detective Squad,' an outdoor mission game; and the private cultural salon 'Maesandeung Night Reception Room,' which will open Deoham House, normally closed to the public. In particular, the Suncheon Christian History Museum, which is normally closed every Sunday, will open specially on October 11 during the night tour.
Suncheon City is also introducing a premium local package to transform national heritage from something merely viewed into a driving force for visitors to stay and spend money in the area, thereby encouraging longer-stay tourism. The city aims to attract overnight visitors with the 'Moonlight Heritage PASS,' an integrated package combining accommodations, food, premium hands-on programs and tours. Culture Street will host the 'Geumkkot Market,' featuring around 40 handmade craft vendors. In collaboration with the Maegok-dong Residents' Council, the city will also operate 'Koit Gabae (bakery café),' the traditional tavern-themed 'Night Tour Tavern' and a 'Food Truck Zone.'
