[NEW DELHI, India—Correspondent Pragya Awasati] Hyundai Motor Company's Indian subsidiary sold a total of 77,916 vehicles in September, including domestic sales and exports, setting a new monthly sales record. This represented a 10.8% increase from the same month a year earlier and surpassed the previous monthly record set just a few months ago.
According to local media reports on the 1st, Hyundai Motor Company's domestic sales in September reached 57,166 vehicles, up 10.9% from the same month a year earlier. The record monthly sales performance was attributed to steady demand for popular SUV models such as Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Venue in the domestic market, which accounted for about 73% of total sales. With the festival season—one of India's biggest peak periods for auto sales—now getting fully underway, Hyundai Motor Company expects showroom traffic and vehicle demand to rise further over the coming weeks.
Exports also rose 10.4% year over year to 20,750 vehicles. With overseas markets accounting for about 27% of total sales, exports also made a significant contribution to the monthly sales record. Hyundai Motor Company plans to introduce the new Hyundai BAYON SUV in India ahead of the festival season. Positioned between Hyundai Venue and Hyundai Creta, the five-seat model will expand the company's SUV lineup in India. It will be equipped with a gasoline engine, a six-speed manual transmission and an IVT automatic transmission. Dual digital screens and a generative AI voice assistant will also be added to enhance convenience and digital functionality.
Tarun Garg, head of Hyundai Motor Company's Indian subsidiary, said, "September sales surpassed the previous record set in July, and we expect customers' interest to continue during the upcoming festival season in India." The new-model effect is also expected to provide an additional boost as pre-orders for the Hyundai BAYON begin. With the expansion of the SUV lineup coinciding with demand during the festival season, attention is focused on whether Hyundai Motor Company's sales growth in India will continue.
