[Financial News] A tendency is emerging among Americans to favor populist policies regardless of their party affiliation.
On the 30th, local time, The Wall Street Journal reported that it had surveyed 1,500 American adult voters in mid-September about their views on more than 30 policies.
The survey found that voters showed strong support for policies that could be classified as populist, regardless of whether they were conservative or progressive. For example, 78% of Democratic Party supporters and 83% of Republican Party supporters backed a proposal to cap credit-card interest rates at 10%.
John Anzalone, a Democratic pollster who participated in the survey, told the WSJ, "We like to divide the world into conservatives and progressives, but we may need to start thinking that populism has now become the dominant ideology in both parties." Adam Geller, a Republican pollster, also said, "This is not a conservative-versus-progressive issue."
