[Financial News] Kim Hye-ja's 65-year acting career and her decades-long journey of giving in Africa will meet viewers through a documentary. It follows how she gained the strength to carry on by caring for the pain of others.
World Vision, an international relief and development NGO, said on the 1st that the special documentary "Kim Hye-ja's Regards—Please Don't Die" will air on SBS at 11:05 p.m. on the 4th. It will be released on Netflix on the 5th.
Kim Hye-ja, who is 85 this year, was appointed a goodwill ambassador for World Vision in 1991. She visited an emergency relief site in Somalia in 1993 and continued her field visits and support, including donating all royalties from her book "Don't Even Hit Them With Flowers" for 10 years.
The World Vision production originated in the organization's 2024 internal idea contest. It was completed over three years after closely documenting Kim Hye-ja's final volunteer trip to Africa last year and her acting work in this year's film "Still Shining."
Kim Hye-ja urged the production team, "Don't turn me into a hero; use me to deliver hope to people."
The documentary shows how the wounds and anxieties Kim Hye-ja has carried have led to empathy for the suffering of others. It also portrays how, after passing through dark periods in her life and meeting children in Africa, she sustains her own life through giving.
The title "Please Don't Die" is a message Kim Hye-ja has conveyed through her visits to Africa and her acting. It expresses the belief that those in pain are not alone and that hope can be found in caring for one another.
The documentary features directors Bong Joon-ho and Song Il-gon, along with actors Ko Du-shim, Lee Jung-eun, Han Ji-min, Lee Se-young, Choi Kang-hee, Son Ho-jun, and Ryu Deok-hwan. Lee Byung-hun provides the narration. HANRORO's "To. __" and Jeongmilla's "A Flower" are used as background music, and the stories of World Vision donors are also introduced.
World Vision plans to run a related campaign online, on social media, and offline from this month through the end of the year to coincide with the release of the film "Still Shining" on the 21st.
