[Financial News] Ewha Womans University will host an international academic event on responding to an increasingly complex risk environment shaped by climate change and advances in artificial intelligence (AI). Ewha Womans University announced on the 1st that it will hold the 2026 Hazard Literacy International Conference (ICHL 2026) from October 23 to 24 at its Education Building in Seoul’s Seodaemun District. The event will be hosted by the Hazard Literacy Center.
“Hazard literacy” refers to the ability to accurately understand relevant information, make sound judgments and respond appropriately in various crisis situations, including natural disasters, infectious diseases and technological risks. As climate change and emerging risks increasingly occur in combination, the importance of educational approaches that help citizens properly recognize risks and translate that awareness into practical action is growing.
The conference’s first day, October 23, will feature keynote speeches by scholars from abroad. Speakers will include Professor Russell Tytler and Professor Peta White of Australia’s Deakin University, Professor Rike of the University of Washington (UW) in the United States, and Professor Lee Kyung-geon of Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU). They will present new directions in risk-response education, including data and social justice, as well as communication between humans and AI.
Group workshops involving experts and participants will be held on the second day, October 24. Participants will share research trends and key issues in risk-response education and develop ideas for collaborative research through group discussions.
Anyone can attend the conference free of charge. Those who wish to participate can register through the conference website by October 19.
