[Financial News Ulsan = Choi Su-sang] A court sentenced a woman in her 50s, identified as A, to 14 years in prison for beating her mother, who had dementia and was in her 80s, to death over dissatisfaction with her inheritance.
According to Criminal Division 12 of the Ulsan District Court, presided over by Judge Lee Young-je, on the 1st, A was indicted on charges of parricide for beating B in the bathroom of B's home in Nam-gu, Ulsan, last November with her hands, fists and a showerhead, and kicking and stomping on her chest and abdomen, causing her death.
A had frequently visited B since 2024 to care for her, as B suffered from dementia and joint disease. After A's father died, she lived with B at her home. A later learned that her parents had given a commercial building and an apartment to her younger brother without telling her. She felt hurt and also came into conflict with her siblings. On the day of the incident, she drank alcohol, and her resentment boiled over, leading to the crime.
The court noted that the victim's life ended amid pain and fear that are difficult to comprehend, while the defendant showed an attitude of evading responsibility. However, it explained that it took into account the fact that A personally called 119, that the crime was committed impulsively, and that she had supported her mother.
