[HANOI, Vietnam—Correspondent Kim Jun-seok] Ho Chi Minh City climbed 17 places from the previous assessment in the global financial center rankings, making it one of the world's fastest-growing financial cities. Da Nang also entered the assessment for the first time, ranking 71st globally.
According to the 40th edition of the Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI 40) report released on the 30th of last month by UK-based consultancy Z/Yen Partners and the China Development Institute (CDI), Ho Chi Minh City ranked 67th among 117 cities assessed, with a total score of 692 points. This was 17 places higher than its 84th-place ranking in GFCI 39, released in March, while its score also rose by 27 points.
Ho Chi Minh City recorded the second-largest rise in the rankings among the cities assessed for GFCI 40, trailing only Copenhagen, Denmark, which climbed 19 places. Its ranking has risen for three consecutive assessments. Over the past two assessments alone, the city climbed 28 places, moving from 95th to 67th.
Ho Chi Minh City also recorded an increase of approximately 4.1% in its score, well above the global average of 0.8% and the Asia-Pacific average of 1.48%. It was the fastest-rising financial city in Southeast Asia and retained a top-three position in the region, behind Singapore in fourth place and Kuala Lumpur in 39th. The city also continued to be listed among the 15 global financial centers expected to achieve the strongest growth over the next two to three years. Its fintech ranking rose 12 places to 71st.
Meanwhile, Da Nang entered the GFCI for the first time in the GFCI 40 assessment, ranking 71st globally and fourth in Southeast Asia. Its ranking surpassed those of established major financial cities in Southeast Asia, including Bangkok, Manila and Jakarta. Da Nang also ranked 74th globally in the fintech sector. Vietnam now has two internationally certified financial centers.
