[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump, who personally announced South Korea's investment project in the United States, said that he had recently met President Lee Jae Myung in New York and reached an agreement on the investment.
After an announcement event at the White House on the afternoon of the 30th local time, President Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social, "I met President Lee Jae Myung of South Korea in New York, and we agreed to begin $200 billion in new investment in the United States."
Earlier, President Trump held a U.S.-South Korea summit with President Lee, who was visiting New York to attend the UN General Assembly, on September 22. At the time, the White House only said that the two leaders had discussed several issues, including shipbuilding cooperation. On this day, however, President Trump claimed that they had also reached an agreement on South Korea's investment in the United States.
Through the social media post, President Trump once again detailed and actively promoted the South Korean investment projects in the United States that he had personally announced earlier that day.
Regarding the Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in particular, he wrote, "The United States and South Korea agreed to commence working together on the $50 billion Alaska LNG Project." This differed markedly from the wording in the joint U.S.-South Korea fact sheet, which said the two countries had "agreed to begin reviewing" the project.
On Truth Social, President Trump also emphasized, "We will develop the vast resources of the great state of Alaska, build new American gas infrastructure, and have great American workers construct it," adding, "This project will bring transformative change to the people of Alaska."
Referring to South Korea's $350 billion investment in the United States, President Trump said, "We are turning South Korea's investment commitment into opportunities to create massive construction projects and tens of thousands of American jobs." He described them as "large-scale energy projects that will expand America's power-generation capacity."
At the White House that day, President Trump announced the construction of eight U.S. nuclear reactors worth $120 billion, the $50 billion Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, and the $22 billion Texas gas-fired power generation project as South Korean investment projects in the United States.
