Busan City announced on the 1st that it will hold 2026 Busan-ASEAN Week from the 6th to the 11th at L Arena in LOTTE Department Store – Busan Main Store in Busanjin-gu.
The event is an international cultural exchange program bringing together citizens, ASEAN diplomatic missions in Korea, and international students. It has been held annually since 2020 following the successful hosting of the 2019 ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit.
The opening ceremony will take place on the afternoon of the 6th and feature opening remarks, congratulatory addresses, and performances. Under the theme of "Cruise ASEAN," this year's event is designed to let visitors experience the cultures and attractions of the 11 ASEAN countries along a route progressing from "Departure" to "Discovery" and "Exchange."
The venue will introduce the maritime legends, landmarks, and traditional cultures of the 11 ASEAN countries. It will also present various citizen-participation programs that combine the characteristics of Busan, a maritime city, with ASEAN culture. Major programs include a workshop led by Thai traditional natural-dyeing artist Kamon Indigo and a sand art performance based on ASEAN maritime legends.
The city expects the event's location in an accessible, multifunctional cultural space to make it easier for citizens to encounter and experience ASEAN culture in their daily lives. Anyone can participate freely.
Busan Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Oh Seok-geun said, "We hope this ASEAN Week will serve as an opportunity for Busan citizens to learn about ASEAN's diverse appeal," adding, "We also hope it will become a meaningful venue for cultural exchange where ASEAN countries can showcase their vibrant cultures to a wider audience."
