[Financial News] Canon Korea took the top spot not only in the domestic interchangeable-lens and mirrorless camera market but also in compact camera sales in the first half of this year. The company plans to step up efforts to target demand for content creation, including vlogs, with its PowerShot V series, which supports both photography and video recording.
Canon Korea said on the 1st that it ranked No. 1 in domestic compact camera sales in the first half of this year. The PowerShot V series is a line of compact cameras designed to emphasize portability and convenience for video recording. After introducing the PowerShot V10 in 2023 as a camera specialized for vlogging, Canon launched the PowerShot V1 last year with enhanced photography and video capabilities.
The Canon PowerShot V1 features an approximately 22.3-megapixel 1.4-inch CMOS sensor and a DIGIC X image processor. For photography, it uses an approximately 16–50mm zoom lens based on the 35mm equivalent and supports continuous shooting at up to approximately 30 shots per second with its electronic shutter.
For video, it can record at 30 frames per second without cropping the image by oversampling information captured at 5.7K and compressing it to 4K. A cooling fan is built into the body to support extended video recording. The camera weighs approximately 426 grams.
The Canon PowerShot V10 is an approximately 211-gram camera designed for vlogging. It features a 1.0-inch CMOS sensor and a 19mm ultra-wide-angle lens, and supports video recording at up to 4K UHD and 30 frames per second. Its built-in stand and angle-adjustable 2.0-inch LCD allow users to record without a separate tripod.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the PowerShot launch. The brand, which began with the PowerShot 600 in 1996, has recently expanded its applications to video content creation, including vlogs and short-form content, through the V series.
To celebrate its first-half sales performance, Canon Korea is offering promotional gifts to customers who purchase the Canon PowerShot V1 or V10 from today through December 22. After purchasing a product, customers must register it and enter the event on the official website by December 29. V1 buyers can choose either a genuine battery and charger set or a department store mobile gift certificate worth KRW 60,000, while V10 buyers will receive a KRW 50,000 gift certificate. The battery and charger set is available in limited quantities.
Park Jung-woo, CEO of Canon Korea, said, "We will continue to introduce a range of products tailored to changing ways of shooting and content-creation environments, and bring the joy of using cameras to more customers in their everyday lives."
