[Financial News] Samsung Electronics has unveiled the Galaxy SmartTag3, which is smaller and lighter than its predecessor and features enhanced location-tracking capabilities. Users can locate their belongings from a distance nearly three times farther than before and receive alerts when pets leave designated areas.
Samsung Electronics unveiled the Galaxy SmartTag3, a mobile device that can be attached to belongings such as keys and bags or to pets to track their location, on the 1st. It will be launched sequentially in global markets, beginning in South Korea on the 7th.
Reduced size and weight, extended battery life
The new product is approximately 35% smaller in volume and 33% lighter than its predecessor. It features a rounded design and an aluminum button, while dedicated accessories—including a silicone case with an integrated key ring and a loop case—will also be released.
It runs on one replaceable coin-cell battery (CR2032). The battery lasts up to 550 days under normal use and up to 790 days in power-saving mode without replacement.
For the first time in the Galaxy SmartTag series, the device supports compatibility between Galaxy and iOS devices. Previously, users could check and share a tag's location only on Galaxy devices that supported SmartThings Find. The new product also provides these features on iOS devices.
The Search Nearby feature, which locates tags in the vicinity, uses Bluetooth 6.0's Channel Sounding technology. This technology precisely measures the distance between two devices, allowing users to check a tag's direction and distance through Compass View from up to 60 meters away, depending on the surrounding environment. Samsung Electronics said the device can track locations from a distance nearly three times farther than its predecessor.
This feature is supported on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, and Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus. When users move closer to the tag, Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) technology provides more precise location information.
For example, if a user loses their keys in a large park, Compass View can be used to check their direction from within 60 meters. Once the user gets within 20 meters, UWB technology can pinpoint the keys more precisely.
When the tag moves beyond the range of a direct smartphone connection, it uses the Galaxy Find Network. This location-tracking network connects more than 900 million Galaxy devices worldwide. Nearby Galaxy devices with Offline finding enabled can detect the tag's location and help locate it. The new product also improves the speed of location updates through the network.
Alerts for pets leaving areas and moving belongings
The newly added Get alerts at set locations feature sends notifications when a tagged item or pet enters or leaves a designated area. Users can check whether a pet has left the yard or a bicycle has moved from its usual parking spot.
The device also sends an alert when movement is detected after the connection between the smartphone and tag is lost. Users can also view the tag's travel path through Location History.
The device offers IP67-rated water and dust resistance, as well as an NFC-based Lost Mode. When someone who finds the tag scans it with an NFC-enabled mobile device, they can view the contact information or message registered by the owner.
Pressing the tag's button can also activate routines on compatible devices connected to SmartThings. For example, users can turn off the power in their home or close the curtains using routines set up in advance before leaving. Users' location data is protected through encryption.
Kim Jung-hyun, executive vice president and head of the CX Office at Samsung Electronics' MX Division, said, "Users have wanted an easy and convenient way to check the locations of not only their travel bags but also their everyday belongings and pets. Galaxy SmartTag3 incorporates these diverse uses into a compact design and enables precise location tracking through the powerful Galaxy Find Network."
The product comes in white and black and is priced at 44,000 won. A four-pack containing two white units and two black units is sold for 149,600 won, a 15% discount.
