[Financial News] KB Financial Group has invested in U.S. AI infrastructure alongside NVIDIA. The move is aimed at securing a leading position in a key area of the value chain as demand for GPU computing surges with the spread of generative AI.
According to investment banking industry sources on the 1st, domestic venture capital firms, including KB Investment and DSC Investment, along with Kyobo Life Insurance and KT, participated with NVIDIA in GMI Cloud’s Series B funding round, which totaled $668 million, or approximately 907.4 billion won. Of the Series B funding, $223 million was equity investment. Taiwan’s CTBC provided a $445 million credit facility.
The round was led by ARCHIV, a San Francisco-based investment firm specializing in AI and robotics. NVIDIA, a leader in the global AI semiconductor market, also joined the round as an investor. Asian and Asia-Pacific investors, including Taiwan-based Trend Micro, were also among the participants.
GMI Cloud is headquartered in Mountain View, California, and provides high-performance GPU infrastructure and AI inference services. The company has been growing rapidly as demand for GPU computing surges. Its contracted ARR has increased more than ninefold from the end of 2025, while ARR from services currently in operation has also grown more than 4.5 times over the same period. The inference platform processes approximately 4 trillion tokens per week. Its major customers include Fireworks, Higgsfield, Nous Research, OpenRouter, Reflection, Cartesia, Trend Micro and Utopai Studios.
The funds raised will be used to expand GPU supply capacity in the United States, Taiwan and other parts of the Asia-Pacific region. GMI Cloud plans to expand its infrastructure around its Taiwan AI factory, announced in 2025 as its first base in Asia, and its sovereign AI initiative in Japan, unveiled earlier this year. The company will also invest in improving its inference services and securing key talent to support business expansion.
GMI Cloud’s strength lies in targeting the U.S. and Asian markets simultaneously. U.S. AI companies and large cloud providers need to secure computing resources locally in Asia to deliver fast and reliable services to users there. Meanwhile, companies in Asia need infrastructure that allows them to operate AI services within their own countries because regulations make it difficult to transfer data overseas. GMI Cloud addresses both demands by enabling users to deploy workloads in their preferred regions based on location, data and regulatory conditions. A stable supply chain is another competitive advantage. GMI Cloud works closely with Taiwanese manufacturers responsible for most of the world’s AI server production, making the timeline from ordering to deployment predictable.
Alex Yeh, CEO of GMI Cloud, said, "In AI infrastructure, delivery timelines are a promise to customers, and customers use them to plan product launches, hiring and revenue. Building on the position we have established in Taiwan’s supply chain, we will build reliable computing infrastructure across multiple continents and grow a product ecosystem on top of it."
Chenyu Zhao, co-founder of Fireworks, said, "Computing resources that are not secured on time cannot be used. GMI Cloud is a key partner with outstanding capabilities and high reliability among the partners supplying NVIDIA GB200 and NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 systems."
