[Financial News] Kim Jong Un, North Korea's general secretary of the WPK, made his first public appearance since a mine explosion involving North Korean troops occurred in the DMZ. However, he remained silent about the risk of a confrontation between the two Koreas following the North Korean land mine explosion on the 21st of last month.
Rodong Sinmun reported on the 1st that Kim Jong Un had visited Kim Il Sung University the previous day to congratulate it on its 80th anniversary, delivered a speech and watched a commemorative performance.
In his speech, he said, "There must absolutely be nothing unfair or opaque at a people's university that the people envy or cannot understand," adding that unhealthy practices contrary to the mission and principles of socialist education must not be allowed to gain a foothold.
The event was attended by university faculty members, students and graduates, as well as foreigners and overseas Koreans who had participated in an international academic conference marking the university's 80th anniversary, officials from diplomatic missions in North Korea and international students.
The previous day, North Korea had fully denied the allegation after Kim Yo Jong, director of the WPK's General Affairs Department, condemned the South Korean military's announcement that North Korea was involved in the mine explosion as a "self-staged act."
