Citadel's Kenneth C. Griffin Donates $3 Billion (₩4.0683 Trillion) to Carnegie Mellon University, Largest-Ever Gift to a U.S. University

[Financial News] Kenneth C. Griffin, founder and CEO of the U.S. hedge fund Citadel, will donate a total of $3 billion (₩4.0683 trillion) to Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).
According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 30th of last month, Griffin will donate $2 billion to establish a new CMU campus in Miami, Florida, and another $1 billion to CMU's main campus in Pittsburgh.
CMU said Griffin's total $3 billion donation is the largest-ever single gift from an individual to a U.S. higher education institution.
The donation is part of Griffin's vision to develop South Florida into a global business and technology hub.
After moving Citadel's headquarters to Miami, Griffin has continued making large investments and donations in the region. His donations to South Florida alone have totaled $2.4 billion to date.
CMU is known for its strengths in computer science, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. Citadel has also hired many quantitative engineers and technology professionals from the university.
Griffin said, "I believe every great American city is anchored by a great university," adding that CMU would complement universities in Miami and the surrounding area.
He also said, "The students who graduate from here and the technology companies that come to Miami to harness their capabilities will transform the face of Miami over the next several decades, perhaps even centuries."
The university expects the Miami campus to eventually accommodate more than 3,500 undergraduate, master's and doctoral students, approximately 300 faculty members, and more than 600 staff members.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the first students expected to enroll in 2028.
